Neutering is the way……

NEUTERING

the efficient and humane solution

Neutering is the most important element in the chain of reducing stray dogs’ overpopulation, it has a essential role for limiting the thousands of strays needlessly destroyed every year for the simple reason that they exist. It is the only humane way of stop breeding and killing.

The policy of our shelter is "NEUTER AND ADOPTION" as we strongly believe since our beginning in the importance of neutering as the only humane, civilized and efficient method for reducing stray dogs number on a long term but also as the only viable alternative of the "Catch & Kill " methods adopted by City Halls. Since 2000 we have been neutering either at the shelter, at the local clinic or whenever we had foreign vets coming here.

We concentrate more on females’ neutering, so every female which enters the shelter is neutered as soon as possible. We have neutered also males, but in the shelter almost all the females have been neutered, expecting those who are very new and who enter soon in the neutering process. After neutering, we mark them with numbered earclips.

In our city there is only one vet who knows to neuter properly, but unfortunately he is very busy and is not always available, so when there is needed we transport dogs to a city at 100 km distance.

Also, in the past years we had vets from "Brigitte Bardot" foundation, but also the F.P.C.C. mobile clinic vets – together with a turkish vet who performed some needed surgeries – who came to neuter some of our new females.

And also our local vet who was neutering dogs as well as cats during years, and n 2005 helped by an italian vet sent by Wetnose Animal Aid.
