Several times, during years,after many quarrels with those responsible for the Catching Service – although the Law for Stray Dogs Administration gives us the right to claim the dogs caught by the catchers – we saved from the municipality’s catchers van, many dogs who were going to be dumped in the woods and shot by the hunters, or directly killed by the catchers.
When we opened the catchers’ van what layed in front of us let us speachless and full of tears; dogs – puppies with adults -crowded one over the other in two cages not bigger then 2 square meters, with blood and saliva running down their mouths, full of excrements and vomiting because of the shock they passed through were looking to us scared and with fear.

Whenever finding sick or injured animals on the streets we take them to the shelter as we can’t leave them suffering and dying on the streets. Animals with health problems are always a priority for us!

 

April 2009

 

We have found him right near our home, being hit by a car, with an open bloody wound at his front leg, having also a bone fracture. His back leg was also fractured , on the same side. We have taken him to the vet who started to operate him …...read here more.

 

 

 

March 2009 

While driving in the city we saw on a sidewalk a dog standing and not moving. It seemed to us that something is not right with him, so we stopped the car and started to call him. Any healthy dog would have either run and come to us, but he didn’t. When we went near him and started to touch his back legs, he started to cry and din’t allow us anymore to pet him. We tried to pick him up on his feets, but he was making one two steps, without any equilibrum and was falling down. As he was crying we looked at all the people that were passing nearby him, some ignored him, a woman stopped, looked at him and left, a man with his child was saying to his child " look that dog had been hit by a car "…..but no one came to him. So, as he was very calm and friendly, but definetely had pains after being hit by a car, we took him slowly, put him into car and  took him to the vet who said that it is a trauma and that he will heal. We made him some injections and we took him to shelter.   
 

A lady living in a town nearby, Bumbesti-Jiu town, called us informing us about a dog who has been hit by a car  and can’t walk on his back legs.

He had been living in front of her block for about 5 days, he was crying often probably because of the pain but the woman didn’t know what to do. So, we went there and found this small nice dog, who had the back leg problem.  We took him in the city to the vet who recommended to take him to x-rays. After taking the x-rays the vet said that the dog has no fracture at the column, just a small fracture at one of the back legs, that is recoverable, with care and treatment. Now, he is under our care at the shelter

They simply don’t care about them, even if we explain them that we have a lot of dogs to take care of and have small financial possibilities. They say that if we dont receive the dogs into the shelter they abandon them in the fields, woods ( where are shot by the hunters) or they kill them. Another problem that we face is that, although we offer people the possibility to neuter their dogs for free so there will be no more abandons in the future, they don’t want to accept it.

Our shelter tries to offer a place to stay and best care for dogs that passed through big sufferings , either abandoned by their owners under different reasons, found on the streets in a bad situation or even saved from the municipality’s catchers in last moments.
